The Cowboy Junkies - "The Trinity Session"
An oldie but a goodie. I bought this years ago along with Hats (The Blue Nile). They were both recommended in a review in Q. Both are fantastic and have been regular plays. Margo Timmins of the Cowboy Junkies has a fabulous voice and the band know how to allow it to shine. This album was recorded live at The Church Of The Holy Trinity, Toronto, Canada on November 27, 1987. An easy album in some ways there's a good variety here. Some trad stuff re-arranged, along with the some covers, and a decent helping of their own good stuff. Their covers are always worthwhile re-workings. The location lends an acoustic and atmosphere. The whole album has a coherence from it being recorded so quickly and in a unique location. Anyone who hears this album always says - "I must buy that".

The Girl on the Bridge
Daniel Auteil excels as the knife throwing saviour of the girl on the bridge (Vanessa Paradis). He says he recruits suicidal girls to be the target in his act. Ms Paradis becomes the next target and a gentle love story unfolds. She is a recovering nymphomaniac and he a circus knife thrower. You almost have to watch to find out where it will all end.
